中国铂族金属矿产资源比较贫乏，总保有储量铂族金属
310吨。我国已探明铂族金属的矿区有35处，分布于全国10个省(区)，其中以甘肃为最多，占全国总储量57%；其次为云南、四川、黑龙江等省。铂族金属矿产矿床类型主要为岩浆熔离铜镍铂钯矿床、热液再造铂矿床和砂铂矿床，以前者为最重要，如甘肃白家嘴子矿床即属此类。铂族金属成矿时代主要为古元古代和古生代。
